Vanessa's Trust Fall Design
"When I showed my husband the final design, he didn’t hesitate. He immediately said, “Well that’s obviously your ring.”
That moment meant everything to me. Who knew that a bunch of strangers who had never met me could design something that felt so perfectly aligned?"

Vanessa's Story
"I met my husband later in life. While I sometimes wish we had met sooner, I know I wouldn’t have been ready for him if we had. The life I lived before him shaped me in ways I didn’t understand at the time, but I see now how necessary it all was."

When we talked about getting engaged, he told me he wanted me to truly love my ring because he was only going to buy one. That might sound a little blunt, but there was history behind it. When his parents got engaged, his mother insisted she loved the small ring his father could afford as a young college student. Less than a year into their marriage, she admitted she hated it and demanded a new one. They couldn’t really afford it, but he replaced it anyway. They eventually divorced. As a child, my husband remembered the ring being referred to as “the ring I hate,” and he never wanted that to be part of his own marriage.
So I chose my ring carefully. And I loved it. What I didn’t love yet was myself."

"I was heavier when we got married than I wanted to be, and over time I gained more weight. Eventually, my ring no longer fit. I hated not being able to wear it, but I felt embarrassed even thinking about asking my husband for something temporary. I also refused to have it sized up. To me, that felt like giving up—like accepting a version of myself I wasn’t ready to accept.
Instead, I bought a simple band and wore that while I quietly worked on myself again. Losing weight wasn’t about anyone else. It was about me.
Over the next few years, the wins showed up in small but meaningful ways. The day my wedding band fit again. The day I could wear both my band and engagement ring together. I remember how proud I felt seeing my ring back on my hand.
But I still wasn’t done.
I kept going. And one day, my ring no longer fit again—this time because it was too big. I wore it with sizers for as long as I could, until even that stopped being safe. I felt two things at once: proud of how far I had come, and heartbroken that I could no longer wear the ring my husband gave me.
When we talked through our options, we learned resizing wasn’t possible. Going from an 8.5 to roughly a 5.75 meant resetting the stone or choosing an entirely new setting. I couldn’t make a decision. I knew I wasn’t done changing, and I couldn’t imagine going through the process twice."

"In the meantime, my husband gifted me a beautiful pink diamond. I thought about setting it into a necklace—something safe, familiar, controlled. Then I saw the contest. And I paused. What if this wasn’t about control at all? What if this was an invitation?
What if this stone became a ring—not as a replacement, but as a marker. A ring I would wear while I continue becoming. One that would eventually move to my other hand when I am ready to reset my original ring. A quiet reminder of how far I’ve come, and how willing I am now to trust the process."

"I’ve spent years learning how to show up for myself—through discomfort, uncertainty, and change. Letting go of control over this setting feels like a reflection of that growth. I don’t need to dictate every detail anymore. I trust what I’ve built. I trust where I’m going."
