The Dainty Debate
It’s true: our dainty engagement ring band is thin! It’s often what clients notice first and love most about our designs: the weightless, ethereal nature of our dainty engagement rings. Designer Melanie Casey has spent years perfecting our collection of handmade rings, creating detailed and delicate fine jewelry with heirloom-quality strength. While we often receive questions about the strength of our signature 1.2mm band, we’re here to debunk the myth that our thin bands are too thin to withstand the test of time.

So, how thin is too thin for an engagement ring?
The answer to that question depends on two major factors: the quality of the craftsmanship and how you care for your dainty engagement ring. Let’s chat about both!

Expert Craftsmanship
First things first, let’s introduce you to the team behind the scenes: our master jewelers. All of our dainty engagement rings are handcrafted from solid 14k gold or platinum by one of our jewelers, from stone setting to final polish. Each jeweler who joins our team trains for years under one of our master jewelers, learning our proprietary techniques for delicate bands, among other complex design elements, one step at a time. Because we consider the 1.2mm dainty engagement ring band our signature style, designer Melanie Casey has spent years perfecting this design, so much so that it has become our structural domain. Once complete, all of our handmade rings undergo a rigorous quality assurance process before leaving the studio, ensuring that each is ready to withstand the test of time.
TLDR? Unique engagement rings with a thin band are what we do, and we do it well.
Once your handmade ring is complete and in your care, there are a few things you can do to ensure that it remains in tip-top condition.

Caring for a Dainty Engagement Ring
As any jeweler will tell you, caring for your jewelry sometimes means removing your jewelry even if it’s designed for everyday wear. This goes for more than just our dainty engagement rings; you should remove any jewelry anytime it could possibly be damaged. Designer Melanie Casey recommends removing your fine jewelry, including dainty engagement rings, when sleeping, showering, or swimming, exercising, gardening, or doing any kind of heavy lifting, as these activities could result in damage to the structural elements of your fine jewelry and dainty engagement rings. We also recommend removing your fine jewelry when interacting with any chemicals, including most soaps, cosmetics, and household cleaners, which could wear away at the metal or stones in your jewelry. We also recommend regular cleanings with our ultrasonic jewelry cleaner to ensure your jewelry remains safe from debris and sparkling.

If you’re still feeling like the 1.2mm band of our handmade rings isn’t for you, not to worry!
We have multiple band widths to choose from.

Which Width?
Many brides love the design of our dainty engagement rings, but prefer the look or feel of a wider band. Some brides also know that they are very rough on their jewelry, and want to proactively ensure that their band is ready to withstand more wear and tear than the average engagement ring. At the end of the day, the wider the band, the stronger the band will be. This doesn’t mean that the thin bands on our unique engagement rings aren’t also strong; it’s just that more metal means more stability. Most of our handmade rings come with the option to increase the band from 1.2mm to 1.5mm or 2mm.

So, which band is for you?

Our signature style and an MC classic. Our 1.2mm band is light with a barely-there feel, allowing the focal stone and accent stones to appear to float weightlessly above the band. If you love the look and feel of delicate jewelry, this is the band for you.

Just slightly taller than our signature 1.2mm band, the 1.5mm band is perfect for the bride who still likes the look of delicate jewelry but desires a more substantial feel. This band maintains the dainty engagement ring aesthetic while adding more metal.

Our 2mm round band is noticeably thicker than our signature 1.2mm band, perfect for the bride who likes chunkier jewelry but wants to maintain the look of a classic engagement ring. This is a great choice if you know you want a large focal diamond and want to ensure your engagement ring looks more proportional.

Our wide band collection encompasses any rings with a band wider than 2mm. These unique engagement rings feature contemporary bands that can be flat like a cigar band, or more sculptural and bubbled, depending on the look you want.
