FAQ
Are your stones ethically sourced?
Yes. 100% yes. We are perfectionists when it comes to the quality of our jewelry, and that starts with our sourcing. We work with suppliers who abide by the Kimberley Process, so we only work with conflict-free materials. Rest assured—we would never work with or sell a conflict diamond or gemstone. We’re fully committed to caring for the environment, maintaining high ethical standards, practicing sustainable sourcing methods, and using recycled gold.
Are Melanie Casey diamonds real?
Are Melanie Casey diamonds real? Yes! All of our pieces are made with solid 14k gold or platinum (or vermeil, where noted). We use a wide variety of diamonds and gemstones, and most of our engagement rings can also be made with lab-grown diamonds if you prefer. Here is everything you need to know about lab-grown diamonds.
What is vermeil?
Some of our ready-to-ship pieces are made out of vermeil, which is a durable, high-quality, but more affordable material than solid 14k gold. Vermeil jewelry has a base layer of silver. So unlike gold-plated or gold-filled pieces (which use whatever material may be cheapest as the base), vermeil jewelry is thoroughly high quality, from silver to gold. And second, vermeil jewelry has a thicker layer of 14k gold. We use the industry's highest standard of gold thickness (at least 2.5 to 3 microns). We recommend caring for your vermeil pieces in the same way you care for your solid gold pieces. Find tips here.
What are your store hours?
Our jewelers work at our studio here in Andover, Massachusetts, Though it's not a traditional, brick-and-mortar storefront, we recently opened a brand new showroom. We don’t have regular store hours, however, we offer a limited number of in-person appointment times each week. For details please contact our customer care team at questions@melaniecasey.com
Do you make custom designs?
We specialize in handcrafting a wide variety of unique and made-to-order pieces. Melanie is careful to ensure that each element of the design is intentional and meant to enhance the beauty and structure of the piece, so in general we do not make stone substitutions or changes to our designs. We do accept certain custom design requests with a budget of $30,000 or higher, depending on Melanie’s availability. Talk to one of our Customer Care Specialists about diamond upgrades and custom inquiries.

I found a design I like, but I want a bigger focal stone. Can you upgrade it?
We would love to talk with you about that! For engagement ring designs, the answer will almost always be “Yes!”
Send us an email at questions@melaniecasey.com to start that conversation.
Do you work with moissanite or lab-grown diamonds?
We do not work with moissanite. But several of our bestselling engagement rings offer lab-grown diamond focal options. Check out our lab-grown diamond engagement ring collection. And if an engagement ring you’re interested in doesn’t have that option, let us know. We may be able to use a lab-grown diamond focal for it, upon request only.
Here’s everything you need to know about lab-grown diamonds.
We are perfectionists when it comes to the quality of your jewelry. And that includes our commitment to care for the environment, maintain high ethical standards, practice sustainable sourcing methods, and use recycled gold. Learn more about our sourcing here. And feel free to talk with one of our Customer Care Specialists if you’re interested in using a lab-grown diamond for your piece.
I have an heirloom stone. Can you use it in your setting?
Yes, sometimes! At this time, we are able to work with client-supplied diamonds that are graded by GIA, IGI, or EGL. Please note that the designs we are able to reset your diamond into may differ based on the cut of the stone. We cannot accept these projects from our international clients, but we hope to be able to in the near future! Connect with one of our Customer Care Specialists for a quote and more information about our specific policies.
Can I purchase just the setting without the center stone?
Quality is our top priority, and that’s why we present completed pieces, from our hands to yours. We do not sell our settings without the center stone. Each engagement ring is set by our expert jewelers, and we keep the entire process in-house to ensure our high quality standards are met.
I loved a one-of-a-kind or limited-edition piece, but it sold already. Can you make me another one?
We are so sorry that happened! When those pieces sell, they’re (almost always) out of stock, but there’s a chance that we happen to have the stone you need. Start by asking one of our Customer Care Specialists about the piece you were interested in. It really depends on the availability of the stones..
We love dreaming up new designs, and our collections are ever-changing. So be sure to check our New Arrivals Collection to find the pieces that are fresh from the jewelers’ bench.
Can I try on a piece virtually?
Yes! We offer a try-on box experience called Silhouette. In this box, you’ll find a curated collection of sample pieces made in base metal. You can find the listing for our Silhouette Box here.

What if I don't know my ring size?
No problem! We can help. Our (fully refundable) Perfect Fit Ring Sizer is exactly what you need.
I have my eye on a limited-edition piece, and don’t know my ring size. What if it sells out before I find out my size?
Don’t worry—You can purchase your ring now and select "Mail me a sizer" in the size drop-down menu. That tells our team to hold off on the sizing until you’ve had a chance to try out the sizer.
I don’t live in the US. Can I use a size conversion chart online to find my US ring size?
We don’t recommend it. Sizing varies from jeweler to jeweler. Instead, use our Perfect Fit Ring Sizer to avoid having to send your ring back for resizing.
Can you ship my purchase in an unmarked package to keep it a surprise?
We love surprises! To remain discreet, our shipping labels do not include our business name in the return address and our packages will not mention the word "jewelry".
Looking for a workaround? Consider sending it to your workplace or a friend’s house. As long as an adult is present to sign for your package, we can ship it to any permanent address.
I can’t be there to sign for my package. What should I do?
No problem. Just shoot us an email at questions@melaniecasey.com, and our shipping coordinator can help you redirect your package or have the nearest UPS sorting facility hold it for you. (Important Note: Due to insurance restrictions, we have to handle the redirecting and communicating with UPS for you.)
What is Melanie Casey’s return policy?
We accept returns and exchanges for every piece in our collection. Items must be returned in unworn condition within 14 days of receipt, and all paperwork (including the GIA certificate, if applicable) must be returned as well. After 14 days, all sales are final.
Since our designs are handcrafted, returns will incur a 10% restocking fee. This fee covers the labor required to resize and polish the returned piece. If the returned piece requires extensive cleaning or repair (or are in any other condition that prevents resale) we will charge a higher restocking fee, depending on the amount of repair work that’s required.
If you wish to exchange your piece, we will apply the full amount of your original purchase to a new purchase of equal or greater value. The new piece must be available to purchase at the time of the exchange (within 14 days of original purchase). The credit does not apply to future purchases, and the credit is limited to one exchange per piece.
Please contact us before you send your jewelry back, so we can be sure it arrives safely. Clients are responsible for return shipping costs, and we highly recommend that you insure your package—we are not responsible for items that get lost in the mail.
I accidentally damaged my jewelry! What do I do?
Don’t worry. We’ll take care of you! We’re happy to repair any piece you purchased from our collection, and we stand by our work.
We’re proud to provide our limited lifetime warranty for all of our pieces. So rest easy—Whenever your piece needs servicing, know that we’ll handle it with genuine care for as long as you own it. For more details, please visit our Repairs page. Or get started right away by filling out our repair request form.
(By the way... You can even send your jewelry in to us for a FREE thorough cleaning and inspection, so you can always showoff that shimmer and sparkle you love!)
Resizing:
If your ring does not fit, we offer free resizes. You just pay for shipping—you send the ring to us, and the $10.50 you’ll see at checkout covers the return shipping.
Our current timeline for resizing requests is 4-6 weeks from the time we receive your ring.
Ring sizing is not universal. We highly recommend using our Perfect Fit Ring Sizer. It’s a metal sizer and the best way to ensure that your jewelry will fit perfectly on the first try. When you’re done, you can return the Perfect Fit Sizer to us so we can recycle it, and we’ll refund you for the value of your sizer minus shipping. Order It Here.
Our website is designed to offer half sizes by default. If you would prefer a quarter size measurement, just email us and we can take care of that change for you!
While we have your ring for the resize, we’ll complete a full inspection. As part of our process, we'll automatically take care of any minor issues related to ordinary wear and tear. If we need to do any work that goes beyond that, we’ll send you an intake form. Then, with your approval, we'll re-perfect your ring.
In some cases, we may simply exchange the original ring for an identical ring in your size instead of resizing. Why? If either a) it would result in a faster turnaround time, or b) if the integrity of the design would be affected. Of course, we’ll always contact you if we’d recommend that route.
Clients are responsible for shipping costs both ways (and for international clients that includes customs fees).
Please Note: If you chose the “Eternity Band” style option for your ring, resizing incurs a $100 fee (as opposed to our standard complimentary service). But we’ll automatically send you a Perfect Fit Ring Sizer for free so that we can all know exactly what you need. (You will be required to email us to confirm your ring size before we can begin production on your piece.)
