Melanie Casey is hiring Master Bench Jewelers to join our high-performing production network as independent contractors. This is not a conventional role; it is a partnership that delivers the freedom of self-employment with the stability and consistency of an established fine jewelry brand.

This position is designed for experienced jewelers seeking a full-time production volume, focusing on pieces that demand both technical artistry and precision.
The position is designed to deliver annual earnings between $55K–$75K when maintaining consistent, high-volume, high-quality, weekly production.

Position Summary & Requirements
As a 1099 independent contractor, you will be responsible for maintaining your own consumables, tools, and workspace. Melanie Casey will provide the materials for each work order and cover all shipping costs (including insurance) to and from your studio.
We require a jeweler who can self-direct, self-critique, and consistently deliver production-ready pieces that meet our exact standards.
Essential Studio Equipment:
- Torch appropriate for soldering and welding platinum and gold.
- Fully equipped, ergonomically appropriate jeweler's workbench.
- Reliable dust and fume ventilation system.
- Professional-grade jeweler’s setting microscope (our primary studio uses Lieca A60s with GRS Acrobat mounts).
- A secure location for storing work orders.
- Access to a UPS or FedEx shipping hub.
- A laser welder is helpful, but not required
Minimum Experience & Vetting:
- 5-Year Minimum Experience: Applicants must have a minimum of five years of continuous professional bench jeweler experience.
- Bench Test Required: A practical bench test is a mandatory part of the vetting process to assess technical skill and quality standards. All testing is conducted from your studio. We ship a series of bench tests to qualified candidates who meet or exceed our initial screening benchmarks.
- Screening: The selection process includes mandatory questionnaires, references, and background checks.
- Digital Proficiency: All communication, work order management, and specifications are handled digitally. Applicants must be comfortable and proficient in using digital tools for daily operational tasks.
Bench Jeweler Apprenticeship (Paid, Hands On Training)

Melanie Casey is seeking a detail-oriented Jeweler Apprentice! Under the direct supervision of our Jewelry Manager and Training Lead, this full-time program is designed to train aspiring jewelers for a long-term career as a bench jeweler. The program begins with an initial six-month training period, followed by a formal skills assessment. The candidate will be responsible for learning and assisting with: Cast cleaning, Ring resizing, Polishing, and Stone setting. This is an onsite position in Andover, MA, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. The Jeweler Apprentice earns $19.00 per hour during the training phase. Subject to successful completion of the program and the final assessment, the apprentice will be promoted to a Bench Jeweler Level 1, which includes a pay increase to $22 per hour. Specialized training is provided to guide the apprentice through the nuances of our unique product line as they build their professional skillset.
This Apprentice Program is ideal for someone who wants to be in production jewelry as a long-term career, and will be able to take advantage of the combined years of business and jewelry-making experience and technological edge at Melanie Casey. The program will guide you through the foundational jeweler skills specific to our collection, while your progress is evaluated for a permanent, full-time position. We are looking for a candidate with patience, enthusiasm, and a genuine willingness to go the extra mile to master a new craft.
Our Andover, MA studio Apprentices and Jewelers are seated at a dedicated bench outfitted with a bench microscope. Additionally, each bench is outfitted with its own hand tools, torches, and fume extractors. Laser welders are shared amongst a handful of benches.
Ideal candidates are meticulously detailed, love making jewelry, and enjoy participating in friendly studio life. This is an incredible opportunity to learn from some of the best Jewelers in the business as well as understand the operational complexities of the industry.
Job requirements

- Cleaning jewelry
- Cast cleaning
- Polishing, both before and after setting
- Soldering
- Chain assembly
- Laser welding
- Scan diamonds and gems using our 3D scanner and upload the files
- Tool maintenance
- Clerical duties
- Ad hoc tasks around the office
Required Qualifications/Skills:
- Preferred candidates have 1 year experience working in fine jewelry or certification program
- In progress or completed certificate in metalsmithing is preferred.
- Self-driven and organized.
- Able to meet deadlines.
- Must have a long-term commitment to becoming a bench jeweler.
- Background checks and reference calls will be completed prior to acceptance for this position.
- Hands on interview is required, candidates must execute fine motor skills under direct supervision of a master jeweler following a demonstration.
